Remix Friday 8/19/14 ft Monsieur Adi, Alex Adair, Justin Faust, Viceroy & more

Spoon, Royal Oak Music Theatre. Sep. 2014. This week was luckily a short one for me as I prep for my first wedding DJ set for some friends. Of course, I couldn’t neglect Remix Friday, so here are the top remixes of the week. Monsieur Adi returns with a remix of a track I wasn’t familiar with, but have been playing the remix to “Collar” since I first listened to it. Viceroy employed more of his “summertime all the time” strategy to RAC’s “Cheap Sunglasses” and Blonde extended my favorite season a little while longer

REMIX: Elephante Remixes Lemaitre & Galantis Tracks

by • on Sep 18, 14 • in Dance, Electronic, remix • with No Comments

LA-based producer/DJ Elephante has been putting out so many new remixes of late that I can hardly keep track. His latest two efforts were so replay-worthy that it didn’t seem fair to wait until Remix Friday. Elephante’s take on Lemaitre’s “Wait” swaps funky horns for explosions of synth, which pairs well with LOLO’s intoxicating vocals. The remix to Galantis‘ “Help” offers a different view of the original with a slightly bigger, more glitchy yet danceable feel. Stream both remixes below plus an excellent mix Elephante put together for Barstool Beats. Lemaitre – Wait (Elephante remix)

Walk The Moon – Shut Up And Dance

by • on Sep 17, 14 • in Indie Pop • with No Comments

Yes, I do like power indie pop (.fun, Steel Train, Young the Giant) from time to time. So what? Walk the Moon have seemingly toured nonstop since they released their self-titled album (mostly a reworking of independently released I Want! I Want!). The soaring pop hooks of tracks like “Tightrope”, “Anna Sun” and “Jenny” gained a host of new followers and a contract with RCA. As anyone whose attended a Walk The Moon show could attest, those catchy anthems were even more rewarding in a live setting and it seems the Cincinnati fellas utilized the

The Magician – Magic Tape 45 ft Shift K3Y, The Flexican & Sef, Disciples & more

by • on Sep 16, 14 • in Dance, Electronic, remix • with No Comments

The Magician reappeared this week with the latest in his series of amazing Magic Tapes, volume 45. The Belgian producer has already had a big 2014 with previous Magic Tapes, excellent originals and top notch remixes, along with tour/festival dates. Considering all of those activities, I’d say he deserved to take a month or so off from Magic Tapes. The latest Magic Tape picks up where The Magician left off and showcases plenty of great deep house cuts. As usual, Soundcloud commenters have been filling in the tracklist as fast as possible (remember, a Magician

George Maple – Talk Talk prod. by Flume

by • on Sep 16, 14 • in Indie • with No Comments

There’s no shortage of mysteriously enchanting ladies in music these days (see BANKS, Hoodlem, and Island Fox to name a few). However, I’m perfectly fine with adding George Maple to the list of talented chanteuses circulating my playlists. Maple is slightly less enigmatic because she previously blessed Flume’s “Bring You Down” with elegant, yet spectral vocals on the Australian producer’s debut album. The two rekindled their success on “Talk Talk”, the first single from Maple’s upcoming EP, Vacant Space. “Talk Talk” buzzes with humming synth, while Maple hovers around the sensual production with intoxicating flair

    Fickle Friends – For You

by • on Sep 15, 14 • in Indie Pop • with No Comments

Brighton duo Fickle Friends have been one of my favorite discoveries of 2014. Their infectious indie pop anthems “Swim” and “Play” are repeat-worthy and can shift my mood for the better no matter the situation. Singer Natti Shiner described “For You”‘s lyrics as “realizing a relationship isn’t ever going to go anywhere, despite how sad it feels & how much you really want it to work.” Despite the sad narrative the third single continues the aforementioned trends with a joyful melody, infectious hook and Shiner’s sunny vocals. Made In Heights – Ghosts

LA-based duo Made In Heights charmed earlier this year with quirky hit “Murakami” behind hip-hop influenced production from Sabzi and enchantin vocals by Kelsey Bulkin. The intriguing two-piece just returned with a more uptempo effort in “Ghosts”. The production sort of reminds me of Ghost Town DJ’s “My Boo” with its bounce-flair, albeit a lot less bass. Bulkin’s airy vocals float on the pulsing beat that that zigs and zags with varying percussion and effects. Stream “Ghosts” below and follow Made In Heights on Soundcloud and Facebook.
