    Osca – Illume

London newcomers Osca released what felt like an epic song earlier this year in “Blood” and their latest release could be even bigger. New single “Illume” reaches mountainous heights with cascading piano and soaring, inescapable hook. The uplifting song’s formulation was inspired by singer & writer Jack Kenworthy’s experience at Glastonbury and watching thousands sing the Rolling Stones’ “Satisfaction” together. He stated the track is based in “simplicity and how that always means the most”, which is definitely present in the final, catchy result. Stream “Illume” below and look for more from Osca soon.

I’m still holding out hope for a few more weeks of great Michigan weather, but DC/LA’s Misun (pronounced ‘me•sun’) is back with what could be the perfect farewell to my favorite season. The very appropriately titled “Goodbye Summer” hovers like a waning sunset with a nostalgic, indie pop production and Misun Wojcik’s ’60s-style vocals. CATHEDRALS – OOO AAA

by • on Aug 26, 14 • in Indie • with No Comments

San Francisco’s CATHEDRALS (aka Brodie Jenkins and Johnny Hwin) may have crafted their most ambitious and perfect song yet. While Jenkins and Hwin have been ear-pleasing on previous cuts (see “Harlem” and “Want My Love“), the duo’s vocals intertwine with harmonic excellence on new single “OOO AAA”. The song title may not be mind blowing, but the hook will surely reverberate through your head all day. Musically, the expansive song enthralls with layers of stuttering percussion and vocals along with hazy synth and twilight guitar riffs that match the lovestruck emotion of the narrative. Stream

NYC singer/songwriter VÉRITÉ is two for two when it comes to catchy yet smart pop releases in her early career. New single “Weekend” finds her reminiscing about nights in the city with inspiring vocals over an uptempo percussion-filled production. She described the song as “being an ode to the nostalgia of how, despite how sick we were or how insane things get, we can take moments from the craziest times and glorify them as being absolutely perfect.” Stream VÉRITÉ’s “Weekend” below and download FREE at Facebook

Dequindre Cut, Detroit MI. August 2014. The remix world was plentiful this week with the likes of The Knocks, RAC and Matoma dropping enjoyable reworkings early on. The latter half of the week was just as fruitful with Gazzo and WoodysProduce taking on hip-hop classics like 2Pac’s “Changes” and Mos Def’s “Ms Fat Booty”. Elsewhere, MoonBoots and Darius put their respective grooves on Florrie and Bondax tracks, while Oliver Nelson and Skogsra teamed up to tackle Tobtok’s “Higher”. Favorite of the week came from the dynamic duo of DiscoTech (I love alliteration). The Miami producers

SHOW PREVIEW: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers w/Steve Winwood – DTE Music Theatre – 8/24/14

As far as rock legends go there are plenty around still getting by rehashing greatest hits compilations on the road. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers will likely play many of their hits from their arsenal this weekend at DTE, but Mr. Petty & co. also happen to have relevant current music as well. The recently released 13th (!) album, Hypnotic Eye, would be just as fitting in the late ’70s as it would be today with bruising riffs, every-man storytelling and earworm hooks.
