Brooklyn dream pop duo PROM reaches celestial heights on new single “My Line”. The swirling track stirs with escalating synth, paced percussion and bursts of┬áheavenly vocals. The track is from the band’s just released 5 track EP, Keeping Company (stream here), which is filled with electro pop anthem after anthem that shows promise of a breakthrough. REMIX: Future – I Won ft Kanye West (Louis Futon Remix)

Of course, minutes after I hit “post” on this week’s edition of Remix Friday, the gentlemen of Louis Futon drop another excellent remix. They flipped Wiz Khalifa’s recent hit “We Dem Boyz” into something much more listenable awhile back and do the same with Future’s Kanye-produced “I Won”. I didn’t have the same disdain for “I Won” that I did Wiz’s garbage, but “I Won” just sounds so much better as a distortion-filled blissed out anthem than its original iteration. Stream Louis Futon’s weekend-ready take on “I Won” below. BONUS: Logic ft. Jhene Aiko &#

Playa de Cubijero, Northern Spain. October 2014 via Travelstache Its been quite awhile since I missed a Remix Friday (like Jan. 3rd awhile), but if you saw my schedule last week, you’d understand. There certainly a lot of great remixes over the past 2 weeks to keep my study sessions entertaining though. Diplo rebounded from a so-so Lorde remix to putting out an addictive take on Zola Jesus’ “Go”, while ASTR took on a Night Drive track so nicely it made me pine for more of their original material. I wasn’t so sure about Pomo’s

NY producers Solidisco (Matt McGurn and Don Skotnicki) remain one of my favorite finds of the past year. Their recent remix of Icona Pop’s “Just Another Night” hasn’t left my weekend playlist since I heard it and their take on Chromeo’s “Jealous” will likely rank highly on my best remixes of 2014 list. As mentioned when “Work Your Body” was released, their originals catalog shouldn’t be overlooked (see “Never Let You Go” below). The latest entry to Solidisco’s production catalog is dance-floor burner “Unreal” featuring Italian act Fire Flowerz. The disco diva vocals pair nicely

I won’t claim to be a Minus The Bear expert, but my discovery of them over the latter part of their career was a welcome one. The Seattle-based band has been around for more than 13 years and that feat alone is impressive. History is in fact the reason for Minus The Bear’s current fall tour, as they celebrate the band’s 10th anniversary re-release of their fan favorite EP, They Make Beer Commercials Like This. The band also just released and compiled a collection of b-sides and unreleased tracks called Lost Loves (purchase). The album

COVER: Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr – Revelation Blues (The Tallest Man On Earth)

Kristian Matsson aka The Tallest Man On Earth may not seem like an obvious artist for Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr to cover. However, “Revelation Blues” is more of a spirited, melodic track, not the sparse, acoustic narratives that fill much of Matsson’s catalog. DEJJ’s cover expounds upon that energy with an uptempo and harmony-filled synth vigor that showcases the original’s pop potential. The track comes just in time for Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr’s fall tour and will likely make you question your allegiance to the original. Good luck with that. Stream “Revelation Blues” below, the

If you’re familiar with Royce Da 5’9″s past work, you already know what he and DJ Premier do together. Royce has been arguably at his best with Premo’s cut, scratch and sample beats behind him (see “Hip Hop” and “Boom”, in case you forgot). That’s why hip-hop fans rejoiced at the announcement of PRhyme, an album of the duo collaborating around the theme of Adrian Younge samples. Initial offerings “Intro” and “Courtesy” should only stoke more interest with Royce’s wicked punchlines as Premo “speaks with his hands”. Courtesy Intro The tracklist for PRhyme looks like
