New music from Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr has to be one of the better Monday surprises in recent time. In celebration of their pending fall tour, the Detroit gentlemen just released synth slow burner “James Dean”. Like Mr. Dean, DEJJ effortlessly glide on the track with a bit of vocoder and another give fans another in a long list of earworm hooks. No word on where “James Dean” will land, but catch DEJJ on the road this fall, including two dates at The Crofoot in Pontiac on Nov. 22 (tickets) and Nov. 23 (tickets).

    Yellerkin – Tools

I love remixes, but there was plenty of other great music released this week. Brooklyn newcomers Yellerkin caught my ear with their excellent single “Tools”. The vocals cascade amid ethereal keys that sway and see-saw with ease. The early part of the song is melodically rich, but I really love the 3 minute mark where the synth shifts and hits euphoric heights. Adrian Galvin, One half of the duo (w/Luca Buccellati) described the track as about “limitations” and an “anthemic generational song, but one that toes the line between triumph and tragedy.” Stream “Tools” below and

Remix Friday 9/26 ft Saint Pepsi, DiscoTech, Double A, The Chainsmokers, Elephante & more

Serra da Estrela, Portugal. Sep. 2014 via TRAVELSTACHE Let’s close out September with a host of new remixes to get you through the weekend, shall we? LA’s Elephante continued his trend of banging club remixes on Dirty South’s “Unbreakable”, while The Chainsmokers showed off their diverse production skills and crafted a laidback reworking of “Sway”. Elsewhere, DiscoTech’s increased in output is exactly what I hoped for as they reworked Route 94’s summer jam “My Love” and October’s Very Own (Drake’s label) got representation this week as Saint Pepsi funked up Drizzy’s “Worst Behavior” and Rainer

REMIX: RAC Remixes Grizfolk and ODESZA

by • on Sep 26, 14 • in Dance, Electronic, remix • with No Comments

I’d be perfectly fine with RAC dropping a remix every week (actually, he almost does), but two remixes is just over the top (in a good way). I’m actually still blasting Andre’s take on Miami Horror’s latest single, but I won’t complain about new spins on Grizfolk and ODESZA jams. RAC actually produced a very replay-worthy remix of Grizfolk’s “The Struggle” earlier this year and his remix of “Hymnals” is even more dance-friendly. Aside from being Grizolk’s go-to-remixer, Andre’s production adds a new dimension to ODEZA’s recent hit “Say My Name”. The stuttering vocals and

COVER/REMIX: Chet Faker – Lover (Sonia Dada cover/WKND remix)

Remixes of covers happen, but it has certainly been awhile since I enjoyed one this much. Death To The Throne’s mash-up/remix of Lykke Li’s “Knocked Up” cover comes to mind and that was over 4 years ago. This discovery surpasses that execution by miles. See if you can follow me here. Aussie electronic singer/songwriter Chet Faker covered Sonia Dada’s ’90s anthem “Lover (You Don’t Treat Me No Good)” w/an excellent choir for Australia’s triple j radio in July. At over a half a million you tube views, it made the rounds on music blogs for

Spoon, Royal Oak Music Theatre. Sep. 2014. This week was luckily a short one for me as I prep for my first wedding DJ set for some friends. Of course, I couldn’t neglect Remix Friday, so here are the top remixes of the week. Monsieur Adi returns with a remix of a track I wasn’t familiar with, but have been playing the remix to “Collar” since I first listened to it. Viceroy employed more of his “summertime all the time” strategy to RAC’s “Cheap Sunglasses” and Blonde extended my favorite season a little while longer

LA-based producer/DJ Elephante has been putting out so many new remixes of late that I can hardly keep track. His latest two efforts were so replay-worthy that it didn’t seem fair to wait until Remix Friday. Elephante’s take on Lemaitre’s “Wait” swaps funky horns for explosions of synth, which pairs well with LOLO’s intoxicating vocals. The remix to Galantis‘ “Help” offers a different view of the original with a slightly bigger, more glitchy yet danceable feel. Stream both remixes below plus an excellent mix Elephante put together for Barstool Beats. Lemaitre – Wait (Elephante remix)
