Borneo, June 2013 via TRAVELSTACHE More new remixes are here for the long weekend (if you have one). The Chainsmokers make Neon Trees much more listenable, Louis Futon sparks Childish Gambino’s “3005″ (great name, btw) and Viceroy continues his “Jet Life” series with an update of Nelly’s “Ride Wit Me”. I couldn’t pick a favorite this week, but let me know yours in the comments. Lastly, this week’s throwback is a classic from A-Trak. As if Karen O’s wails on “Heads Will Roll” weren’t haunting enough, A-Trak dials up the percussion and synth for an

Both acts have front men with unique vocals, engrossing story-telling and are heralded for essential rock live performances. To celebrate, the bands took turns at playing each other songs and both options might make you question your allegiance to the originals. As the bands told AVClub: Deer Tick’s Ian O’Neil told us: “Craig Finn can bring you right back to the time in your life when partying went

    The Neighbourhood – Honest

by • on Apr 16, 14 • in Indie • with No Comments

Music execs brought in The Neighbourhood to contribute to the soundtrack to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 along with Pharrell, Kendrick Lamar, Alicia Keys and Hans Zimmer. That says a lot about the LA band’s growing notoriety in music. On “Honest”, The Neighbourhood sticks with their winning formula of slick wordplay over dark, shadowy production that faithful fans will enjoy. Hoodlem – Girlfriend (N’SYNC cover)

by • on Apr 16, 14 • in Covers, Electronic, Indie • with No Comments

When it came out in 2001, ‘N SYNC’s ginormous hit “Girlfriend” added a touch of R&B (courtesy of Pharrell & Chad Hugo) to the boy band’s brand of sugary pop. It was also a launching pad for Justin Timberlake’s solo career, so it was perfect for rising singer/producer Hoodlem to craft a cover that touches the ‘N SYNC hit and JT’s “Senorita”. Interestingly, Hoodlem’s shadowy vocals combined light percussion and synth sound more like a Timbaland & Missy produced Aaliyah cut than a true ‘N Sync ode (a good thing). Stream Hoodlem’s take on “Girlfriend&#

I have no idea what this is from, how it happened or who Friend Within is, but I like it. Disclosure can go ahead and keep making music with Friend Within as long as it sounds like this. Check out “The Mechanism” which reminds me a lot of “When A Fire Starts To Burn”, below. Also watch Disclosure’s Coachella set streaming on late Sunday night. BONUS: When A Fire Starts To Burn

St. Vincent/Majestic Theater/Detroit/April 6, 2014 What a week, eh? I think I can finally say Spring has arrived in Metro Detroit and I couldn’t be happier. I hope to be blasting these remixes in my backyard with a beverage or 4. Louis Futon caught my ear with his take of Mos Def’s classic “Ms. Fat Booty”, while ASTR offered up a surprise remix of a recent Big KRIT cut and Perseus transforms Ashanti’s “Rain On Me” into a synth-friendly slow burner. Top remix of the week goes to Rainer and Grimm who make Sam Smith’s

Clean Bandit is having quite the 2014 so far. Infectious single “Rather Be” has already topped the sales charts across the world and was recently the most streamed track on Spotify in the world. Other offerings like “Heart on Fire” and “Dust Clears” from the duo’s album New Eyes are equally intoxicating and have pushed it to the top of my “most anticipated albums” list. The latestly offering “Extraordinary” features the lovely vocals of Sharna Bass amid piano and elegant strings for dance-able results. Stream “Extraordinary” below and look for New Eyes this June.
