REMIX: Miike Snow – Heart Is Full Remix ft Run The Jewels

Though it was a late edition to my JayeL Audio 11-12-15 mixtape, Miike Snow‘s bombastic single “Heart Is Full” has quickly become one of my favorite cuts from both mixtapes. Miike Snow (producers Bloodshy & Avant and singer Andrew Wyatt) charmed on Happy To You, the act’s sophomore album that was chock-full of indie pop ear worms that were sonically exciting at the same time. “Heart Is Full” sounds like nothing on Happy To You, but still manages to be addictive and different than anything in indie pop right now. Wyatt’s unique vocals meld expertly

Matoma – Knives ft Frenship & ‘Hakuna Matoma’ album

If you witnessed Norwegian producer Matoma‘s set at Royal Oak Music Theatre last week, you likely had no trouble bouncing and swaying with the tropical house sounds circulating from the venue’s speakers. There is also a good chance you were in a flowered “Dad” shirt or basketball jersey because that seemed to be the crowd’s dress code (another story for another time). If young producer’s demeanor seemed extra joyful, it was because Matoma was celebrating the official release of his debut “album”, Hakuna Matoma. I’m going to assume the appropriate title is a slight nod

    MIXTAPE: JayeL Audio 11-14-15

One more mixtape for the weekend. This mix also touches a variety of genres from folk to electronic, but adds in a dash of hip-hop with contributions from Big Grams and Pell. Rather than kicking off the set with the electronic sounds (as I usually do), the indie/folk tracks lead things off because they sounded so good next to each other. Newish songs from Blitzen Trapper (“All Across This Land”) and Good Old War (“Tell Me What You Want From Me”) couldn’t possibly be broken up. There is still plenty of dance-related cuts to enjoy

You probably thought I retired from the mixtape game, but I am here to assure that I have not been sitting idling by waiting for new music. There has been a slew of great releases since I last unleashed September’s mixtapes, like albums from Moon Taxi, Disclosure and so many more. In fact, so many great releases, that this 31 track mixtape may have spilled over into a second mixtape (coming soon)… Many other familiar names such as Geographer, Lost Kings, k-os, Jessica Lea Mayfield and City and Colour all made appearances on a mix

SHOW PREVIEW: The Chainsmokers w/Matoma & More – 11/12 – Royal Oak Music Theatre

Production duo The Chainsmokers have steadily risen in the dance music ranks in recent time. Partially due to a constant output of hit originals and remixes, but they’ve been know to throw raucous DJ sets as well. Alex and Drew return to Metro Detroit fresh after releasing their debut original EP, Bouquet (iTunes). One look at the track list and you may feel like the set is an early “greatest hits” collection. Four out of the five cuts have been mega-hits on Hype Machine and beyond, plus new single “New York City” has just as

    Jack Garratt – Breathe Life

by • on Oct 16, 15 • in Indie • with No Comments

Brit jack of all trades act Jack Garratt is one of the few acts that I genuinely need to hear the minute I find out he has released new music. For being a relatively newish act (at least in the States), that may seem like a surprise. However, Garratt has proven he can glide between gut-wrenching ballads and experimental electronic-infused pop smashes. New single “Breathe Life” seemed as though it would be in the former category, but the see-saw production followed the singer/producer’s emotions. Lows quickly became highs with frenetic synth, effects, percussion and Garratt’s

Today was actually a decent fall day in Michigan, but it also marked the first time turning on the “heat” was necessary. The instant I heard LA-based producer Goldroom‘s “Waiting To Ignite”, I mentally traveled back to the summer heat of August. Ren Farren’s escalating, soul-filled vocals captured the spirit of the track with a breezy hook, groove-ready bass-line and retro synth rhythms that feel beach ready. Stream Goldroom’s latest single “Waiting To Ignite” below and purchase here. Detroit – Catch Goldroom (w/a live band!) at Populux on Saturday, October 24th (tickets). BONUS: Goldroom &#
