Remix Friday 10/23 ft AMTRAC, Slinger, Molina, RAC, Robin Schulz & more

Z-lot alley, Detroit, MI. October 2014. Mid-60 degree weather at the end of October doesn’t happen in Michigan, so I’m going to spend as much time outside as possible this weekend. These remixes should serve as an excellent soundtrack no matter where you are. Molina’s hyper-synth take on Vérité’s “Weekend” is apt for end of the week fun and Robin Schulz turns David Guetta’s latest into a string-infused composition that is much more palatable. The remixes in the middle section of this week’s RF are a bit more downtempo, but excellent in their own right

MIXTAPE: JayeL Audio 10-23-14 ft The Lone Bellow, Karen Harding, Walk The Moon, Chet Faker & more

I’ve received four notices to put out a mixtape and they were all absolutely correct that I was overdue. Hopefully 35 tracks of new indie, dance, pop, folk and remixes will suffice for October. This month’s mix decidedly leans toward the folk and indie rock end of the musical spectrum, which tends to occur seasonally. The Lone Bellow make a triumphant return with “Then Came The Morning” that has elements of gospel, but plenty of stomp that will assuredly sound even better live. If you like their sound, you’ll certainly enjoy Neulore, Shakey Graves and

It is probably safe to say you have very specific memories tied to Michael Jackson’s classic release Thriller. The legendary album had countless hits and sold over 29 MILLION copies in the US alone. In a year where there might not be a single album to reach platinum status, that is unbelievable. I have a slew of memories of Thriller myself after countless listening sessions via my very own Fisher Price record player. “Beat It” was probably the single I listened to and music video I watched most often (“Thriller” was frightening in my early

VÉRITÉ – Heartbeat + Echo EP release

Talented NYC singer-songwriter VÉRITÉ is sure to rank with Ryn Weaver as my favorite new leading lady of 2014. Like Weaver, VÉRITÉ has made memorable efforts with every single she’s released. From the addictive, percussion-driven rhythms of “Echo” to the synthy heights of “Weekend”, she hasn’t put out a lackluster track yet. The fourth and final cut from VÉRITÉ’s Echo EP (stream all 4 tracks here) continues the hit-making trend with “Heartbeat”. She called the EP “a culmination of thousands of emails, self imposed emails, self doubt, experimentation and the insanity that is mind.” The

    Paperwhite – Pieces

Brooklyn duo Paperwhite charmed earlier this year with a slide of dream pop heaven in “Magic”. The up and coming act seems to have hit a groove with retro/new wave-inspired sounds and follows through on their latest release “Pieces”. The sing-along ready cut from the upcoming Magic EP (out 11/17) excels with Katie Marshall’s endearing vocals amid bursts of synth and percussion by brother Ben. Fans of CHVRCHES and HAIM will likely fall in love with Paperwhite and “Pieces”. Stream “Pieces” below and purchase at iTunes. If you are attending CMJ fest, catch Paperwhite at

REMIX: Future – I Won ft Kanye West (Louis Futon Remix)

Of course, minutes after I hit “post” on this week’s edition of Remix Friday, the gentlemen of Louis Futon drop another excellent remix. They flipped Wiz Khalifa’s recent hit “We Dem Boyz” into something much more listenable awhile back and do the same with Future’s Kanye-produced “I Won”. I didn’t have the same disdain for “I Won” that I did Wiz’s garbage, but “I Won” just sounds so much better as a distortion-filled blissed out anthem than its original iteration. Stream Louis Futon’s weekend-ready take on “I Won” below. BONUS: Logic ft. Jhene Aiko &#
