Back at it again with a mixtape stuffed with the latest in indie rock, pop, dance, electronic, and even a bit of hip-hop. I don’t have much of a preamble this week as I’m still nursing my wounds from national and Metro Detroit political failures. I’ll only say that I hope this time of frustration (on all fronts) inspires a wave of classic and impactful protest music. New albums by Common and a newly reunited A Tribe Called Quest are incredible listens already. JayeL Audio 11-14-16 from jayelaudio on 8tracks Radio. JayeL Audio 11-14-16:

    Michigan Rattlers – Last Week

by • on Oct 25, 16 • in Alt Country, Americana, Folk, Indie • with No Comments

I offered a preview of up and coming duo Michigan Rattlers on my most recent mixtape, but their brief, but growing catalog has been on constant replay over the past month or so. “Illinois Sky” and “Sweet Diane” offer up approachable Americana with relatable storytelling reminiscent of Dawes and The Jayhawks. Graham Young and Adam Reed clearly have a penchant for narratives and tie in their Michigan (originated in Petoskey) experiences, including references to one of the Mitten’s most tasty IPA’s, Bell’s Two Hearted Ale. New Rattlers track “Last Week” ratchets up the act’s alt

Montreal-based producer Kaytranada was already having one helluva 2016 after the highly anticipated release of 99.9%, the Canadian producer’s first official album. The album already received acclaim for its expert melding of funk, soul, and dance music with strong features from Vic Mensa, AlunaGeorge, and more. Further praise came via the 2016 Polaris Music prize for best Canadian album of the year, which I’m sure will translate to more end of the year accolades. Aside from the recognition for 99.9% (likely one of my favorite albums of the year as well), Kaytranada’s production game has

Basic Tape – So Good ft Danny Shah

Paris producers Basic Tape claimed my 3rd favorite remix of last year with their addictive take on Grades’ “King”. That cut has still made appearances on my weekend playlists throughout this year, but I was particularly happy to see Sav & Ben return with an original production last week. New single “So Good” balances paced synth/keys and Danny Shah’s energetic vocals on the funk-filled groove. “So Good” keeps up the duo’s streak of melodic dance pop hits over the past year that included “Bright Side”, a collaboration with Mozambo, and “Not Afraid”. Belgian producer Mickey got a huge boost with a feature on The Magician’s Magic Tape 64 last month and found a home on Potion/Spinnin Deep. Now comes the full length release of the piano-infused house cut “Harlem” and its even more intoxicating in its totality. Stream “Harlem” below and find more danceable cuts by Mickey at Soundcloud. With the coming of fall, my tastes tend to lean toward more folk, rock, and blues, but this month’s mixtape adds a bit of electronic as well. The Chainsmokers continue their 2016 hit parade with Phoebe Ryan in tow, while Remix Friday alum Louis the Child drops the aptly title original “Fire”. Edmonton’s Travis Bretzer gave a repeat-worthy cover over DJ Snake’s “Middle” a psych rock spin, and RAC updates Jai Wolf’s “Drive” in hypnotic fashion. As you’ll hear, I am still a bit #Wayhomesick with new tracks from the likes of AlunaGeorge and Lucius,

REMIX: Major Lazer – Cold Water (Ocular Remix)

by • on Sep 13, 16 • in Dance, Electronic, remix • with No Comments

If you were like me, the last few weeks of summer 2016 included plenty of repeat listens to The Chainsmokers’ “Closer” and Major Lazer’s “Cold Water”. I can’t say I’m sick of either track yet (though I admittedly do have a high tolerance for songs on repeat), but a fresh batch of “Cold Water” remixes was a welcome surprise this week. Established producers like Afrojack and Lost Frequencies put forth solid efforts, but reworkings by Delirious & Alex K and Ocular were my favorites of the collection. Stream below and listen to the rest on
