How do you explain a mixtape that was supposed to come out one month ago? Well, you can offer up excuses related to work, a conference in the Windy City, and a sunny Florida vacation, but I wouldn’t expect much sympathy from that explanation. Instead, I’ll explain that said mixtape was actually shaping up into 2 mediocre mixtapes. Instead, I opted for a ‘best of the last 2 months mixtape’ spanning my listening from October and November. Stream new jams from AUTONOMICS, Miguel, Moon Taxi, Tove Lo, & more below. The return of N.E.R.D. wins

    PREMIERE: Canaro – Depth

Blog posts have been few and far between these days, but the new indie/electronic pop sounds of Canaro are certainly worthy enough to dust off the keyboard. The Detroit six-piece are now “three for three” when it comes to replay-worthy hooks according to my count with new track “Depth”. The intoxicating single spirals with Liz Shar’s celestial vocals and Cut Copy-esque synth that sounds retro without being a novelty. “Depth” adds to early favorites “Fell Too Hard” and “Guapical” that manage RAC and St. Lucia heights from the recently released, People Movers Vol. 2. “Fell

This mixtape didn’t get as organized as fast as I wanted, but here are another 32 songs to keep you busy this fall. Triumphant returns from ODESZA, St. Vincent, and Wolf Parade made for tough choices as this month’s mixtape opener. In the end, LCD Soundsystem’s most danceable effort from American Dream, “tonite” could not be denied as the top contender to kick off the set. Besides the JayeL Audio veterans, mixtape newcomers such as NVDES, Sure Sure, and William Wild impressed with repeat-worthy cuts. Speaking of songs worth multiple-listens, I’ve been stuck on Skip Marley’s

A lot has happened in the music world since 4th of July and I’ll admit, I’ve been hoarding a lot of music since that time. Arcade Fire put out a danceable new album with a side of social commentary, RAC stayed consistent with a solid sophomore album + an excellent remix (“Ordinary Madness”), and The War On Drugs released an ’80s inspired contender for album of the year. The good news is that this means you’ll be seeing not one, but two new mixtapes from me in the coming weeks. The first has fiery new

MIXTAPES: 4th of July 2017 DAY & NITE

Back again with over 60 songs to keep you moving (or relaxing, whatever you prefer) on this hopefully long holiday weekend. Someone asked me recently “why ‘DAY’ and ‘NITE'”? Well, if you are on the beach this weekend, you really should only be keeping time through the system of daylight = day and night = night time. No need for watches on the beach. This year’s DAY mix spans 34 tracks that start in the folk/indie pop realm before moving into some upbeat electro pop that should transition to some danceable sunset ready cuts. Dan

There is a lot to be excited about with the change in seasons to warmer weather. I expect the sunshine, patio perching, and summer-ready new music. I did not expect brand new music from two of my all time favorites: LCD Soundsystem and Arcade Fire. Win Butler & co’s “Everything Now” is probably more ‘summery’ of the two with a disco flair, but “Call the Police” has an urgency that feels like classic LCD without being dated. Aside from those gems, JR JR returns with another melodic indie hit while including an important message about

The tricky thing with semi-monthly mixtapes is that if you fall behind one month, it is nearly impossible to catch up. So much new music, so little time. However, my excuse is valid: I spent the last 5-6 months working on an essay for my master’s degree and I am now finished. Done. Special thanks to my amazing wife for all of the patience, encouragement, and sanity throughout the process. Honorable mention goes to my puppy, Buffalo Trace, Bonobo, Real Estate, and Scott Melker’s Soul House mixtape series. What does this mean for you?
