wanderlust by itself
I’ve gotta say, this is a really cool and unique idea for a music fest.

What: Wanderlust Festival 2009

When: July 24th – 26th

Where: Lake Tahoe, CA

Headliners: Michael Franti & Spearhead, Spoon, Girl Talk, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings

Artist Highlights: Andrew Bird, Jenny Lewis, Rogue Wave, Broken Social Scene, Gillian Walsh, Amanda Palmer, Kaki King, Mates of State, The Honey Bears, Mutaytor, The London Souls, Jai Uttal, more TBD.  Plus leading yoga instructors.

Tickets: Seeker tickets that include 3 days of music and yoga are $165.  Wanderer passes for only music are $125.

Accommodations: Hotels only.

My Take: Well there isn’t much more I can say than what Ms Waters expounded upon. This isn’t as large as most of the festivals I’ve profiled, but of the 16 artists already scheduled, 9 for sure would be great acts to see (the other 7 need some more research on my part).  That is a pretty good percentage for good music.  I can certainly speak for Mr. Gillis, Mates of State and Rogue Wave, while I’ve heard rave reviews about the talents of Jenny Lewis, Sharon Jones and Spoon.  Besides that Lake Tahoe, would be an experience itself. Aside from more line-up additions, the schedule is already up as well.  No need for guessing games about life-altering dual sets or sound annoyances.

Rothbury was a trendsetter last year, maybe Wanderlust will be in 2009.  Activities include Mountain Biking, Hiking and Hot Air Balloon Rides aside from a yoga fan’s dream.  If this is a success, it could certainly lead to niche music festivals that bring innovative ideas and great music together.

Thanks for the shout-out! I’m trying to get Laura on board with this. I would go in a heartbeat if I had a partner.

this festival sounds really chill and its on a mountain! thats pretty tight! awesome views and yoga!! … are a lot of people going??

  • I haven’t heard expected numbers yet, but I would imagine this would be a huge draw. Especially for the 25 and up set. Sounds like a great fest.
