I was first exposed to An Horse when they were openers for Jessica Lea Mayfield last fall. As I mentioned before, their lead-in set at the Crofoot last fall blew me away. How could this Aussie duo seemingly come out of nowhere with such addicting indie pop? Turns out Kate Copper and Damon Cox didn’t exactly appear out of thin air.
An Horse began as a side project for both lead singer/guitarist Kate (of Iron On) and drummer Damon (Intercooler and Mary Trembles), that led to something bigger. The two had been working at a record store together and soon began making music as a duo. After a Tegan and Sara promo appearance at the store, An Horse was invited on a well-received tour with the Canadian singers.
A successful first EP, Not Really Scared, led to the release of a full album, Re-Arranged Beds, this March. I’ve yet to get my hands on the album, but if its anything like the EP, its sure to be filled with catchy, yet emotional indie pop that you’ll be humming for weeks.
An Horse will be playing at The Earl in Atlanta this Friday with Telekinesis, and Today the Moon, Tomorrow the Sun. The show starts at 9pm and tickets are $10 (A steal, if you ask me). I won’t be able to attend, but you should probably go. Really.
