This could warrant two posts, but its the weekend and I put in 50+ hours at work this week. Anyways, two great finds while combing thru Google Reader on Sat morning.
Eat This City reminded me about impressive Mitten website, Single Barrel Detroit.

what is SINGLE BARREL DETROIT? from SINGLE . BARREL . DETROIT on Vimeo.

Essentially, organizers gather local musicans at forgotten locations in Detroit. Somewhat reminiscent of popular sites The Take-Away Show and Black Cab Sessions, Single Barrel’s performances has a DIY-feel while showcasing unique architecture and city views most don’t have access too. Some of the locales/bands highlighted so far have been Hamtramack Disney Land/The Satin Peaches, Detroit Opera House/Aran Ruth and Lee Plaza Hotel/Charlene Kaye.

One band that stood out of the pack on the Single Barrel site was The Hounds Below.

TWO STEP from SINGLE . BARREL . DETROIT on Vimeo.

Made up of Von Bondies singer Jason Stollsteimer, the band’s early work is like Roy Oribson, The Walkmen, and Ra Ra Riot all in one. Their album is available for purchase yet, I haven’t found it but you can stream it at their Bandcamp (and below). Ghosts of a Loaded Gun by The Hounds Below
