This edition of the Nark series should have a little bit of everything for those that have been following these mixtapes. Veterans like Kanye, Dr. Dre, Lil Wayne and Game show up on tracks true to form. Current names in hip-hop like Wiz Khalifa, J Cole and B.o.B. prove why they are in heavy rotation. Even intriguing newcomers like XV, Young Prince, Yelawolf and Gilbere Forte’ bring strong efforts to the table. Most surprising though are the two Saigon cuts. It seemed like The Greatest Story Never Told would languish in major label hell, but then “Clap” and “Its Cold” come out of nowhere and show how great the combo of Just Blaze and Sai could have been. Last time we heard from Frankmusik, he had an addictive little piece of brit pop with “Confusion Girl” Now he comes out of nowhere with free EP, Long Live Frankmusik, featuring 4 new tracks, including a Daft Punk tribute. A “Snowpacalypse” can’t keep the internetz down.

Let festival season commence. My favorites are “Rapper Hanging With The Indie Kids”, “Bearded Assholes From Ohio” and “Tenacious D” are my favorites. *laughs in Aziz Ansari voice* Thanks for sending along Thomas.

Alex Winston just keeps getting better each time I hear her unique voice. The title track from her upcoming EP (out March 8th!) features a mish-mash of sounds intertwined with Ms. Winston’s polygamy narrative and her diverse range of vocal talents. As a fan of “Big Love” and based on the tone of Alex’s lyrics (“Hey there sister wife, get the hell out its my night”), I’m guessing she is more of a Nicki than a Margene.
