AYO Gambino is a mastermind..
No matter how much new music I’ve inhaled over my travels this month, I keep coming back to Childish Gambino. Community actor Donald Glover‘s rap alter ego is quite impressive. He drops bravado-filled bars mixed with some solid similes, metaphors and pop culture flavor that makes you hit rewind multiple times. Some genius (“Took the ‘G’ out yo waffle/all you got left is yo ego.”) and some not so (“Love is a trip/But fuckin’ is a sport/Are there Asian girls here? Minority report”). Sure, a lot of it is tiresome sex lines, but its nothing Yeezy, Weezy or Jeezy fans haven’t heard before. The overall product is well worth your time and Glover will only grow. The production isn’t too shabby either.

Get Childish Gambino’s EP and a leftover track recorded over booze and turkey during Thanksgiving.

I didn’t know who this “kid” was or what he did until I heard a curiously, sounding song in an Adidas commercial with Dwight Howard. Watching the commercial, the song seduced my mind in the background, forcing the thought: Lil Wayne’s got some new s#!t out and it is imbued with the dopeness!!! To my surprise it was a ferocious song titled, Freaks and Geeks, and recited by a rapper named, Childish Gambino. Reading a review by another reader went along the lines of saying: don’t compare him to Lil Wayne because Childish Gambino is too good for that, and I thought: this guy has lost his rocker. After listening to Childish Gambino’s opuses, I Am Just a Rapper and Ep, I am compelled to follow said reader’s line of thought. Lil Wayne is masterful but Childish Gambino’s talent proves he deserves his own chapter in the rap game novel with no comparisons needed. Childish Gambino’s lyrical wordplay and delivery are bananas!
