MP3: Turf War – Cheers To The Years

Nothin’ wrong with some new Turf War. “Cheers To The Years” still has a bit of that garage rock these guys are so good at, but I’m feelin’ the Americana-tinge as well. Turf War’s Years Of Living Dangerously will be on the shelves (whats the term for digital shelves?) in September courtesy of Old Flame Records.

Lil Wayne – Sorry 4 The Wait Mixtape

Delayed releases are nothing new for hip-hop albums, in fact they are almost expected. Lil Wayne and Young Money are particularly notorious for keeping fans on a revolving release calendar (no way Drizzy’s new album comes before 2012, btw). For comic relief, AVClub has been doing a fantastic job on reporting this recently. At least Wayne and Drake have rewarded fans for their patience with free music and so come the Sorry 4 The Wait mixtape. We forgive you Weezy.

STREAM: Theophilus London – I Stand Alone

More good music from Brooklyn’s Theophilus London in the form of single “I Stand Alone”. I can’t say for certiain, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Dave Sitek was behind the boards Jocko produced this indie-dance flavored cut too. Timez Are Weird These Days drops on July 19th.

I Stand Alone was also featured in the trailer for the second season of HBO’s “How To Make It In America.”

Did anyone watch season one of this show? I was mildly entertained, but it kinda seemed like I half-assed version of “Entourage” without Drama. Anyone?

MP3: We Were Promised Jetpacks – Act On Impulse

After an initial preview last month, post punk Scots We Were Promised Jetpacks released guitar-driven anthem “Act On Impulse” for free download (with e-mail). The new album In The Pit Of The Stomach drops on October 4th (October 3rd in the UK) and was recorded in Sigur Ros’ Sundlaugin Studios in the frozen wilds of Iceland Lead singer Adam Thompson describes the follow-up to These Four Walls as a “progression” for the band and a more realized recording process.

“We recorded the debut album in 8 days with one short tour under our belts – this time around we spent a full three weeks in the studio recording with [live sound engineer] Andrew Bush and made an album that both captures the sound of our live show and is strong start to finish.”

STREAM: The Glitch Mob – We Can Make The World Stop EP

I’ve been slowly getting into West Coast electronic act The Glitch Mob over the years, but was really sold when I heard “Drive Like You Stole Hit.” Glitch Mob is back with the We Can Make The World Stop EP and the title isn’t a very accurate description of what you are about to hear. “Palace of the Innocents” has a well executed moderately slow tempo, but the title track and “Warrior Concerto” will have you head nodding to thumping bass for days. “Warrior Concerto” is particularly impressive with is pulsing strings, knocking drum and triumphant synth. MP3: D.VELOPED – Childish Games (Childish Gambino/LCD Soundsytem/Adele….)

D.Veloped is back with another mix that is, well as he put it, “a bit insane.” I’m in total agreement. While everyone from Backstreet Boys to ODB make appearances, Childish Gambino is the centerpiece and generally wilds out. The portion that brings together Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep” with John Legend’s cover of the very same track is pretty damn clever.

MP3: Theophilus London – New Tracks and RAC’s Why Even Try Remix

God, that album art is priceless.
Happy Theophilus London Friday! CoS get their hands on two new joints, a cover and a cut off London’s upcoming mixtape, Prince TL. “No Particular One” covers Jesse Boone & the Astros on a island-tinged tip and “Field of Dreams” is produced by Dave Sitek of TV On The Radio. You can’t go wrong there.

As if those tracks weren’t enough, RAC went ahead and made the Tara Quin featured “Why Even Try?” even more summer-ready with some twinkling piano. Seriously, talk about the most consistent remixers around. Get it get it. Theophilus London ft. Sara Quin – Why Even Try (RAC Mix) by RAC

Festivalist ’11: Music Midtown – Piedmont Park – Atlanta, GA – 9/24

So this is happening…

WHAT: Music Midtown 2011
WHERE: Piedmont Park, Atlanta, GA
WHEN: Saturday, September 24th, Noon to 11pm
LINEUP: Coldplay, The Black Keys, Cage the Elephant, Manchester Orchestra, Young the Giant, The Joy Formidable, Band of Skulls, The Constellations, The Postelles, Mona
ABOUT: Music Midtown returns in a one-day, two stage format at one of the nicest parks in the Southeast, Piedmont Park. Attendance is expected to be capped at 55,000.
TICKETS: $55 GA, $250 VIP, $1,000 Super VIP (plus fees). On sale here on Sat, July 16th at 10am.
ACCOMMODATIONS: Plenty of hotels in Atlanta
MY TAKE: Of all the things I hear about that I missed in the Atlanta days of old (Buckhead’s party scene, OutKast shows), Music Midtown was the one thing I really wanted to see. Though not in its original form, Live Nation and the city have revived the fest for another round. The new Music Midtown won’t be as large previous years when it peaked at 300,000 (rivaling Bonnaroo) and had six stages over three days, but the current one day format at $55 seems like a steal. A Coldplay arena show could certainly cost more than that.
If you haven’t seen Piedmont Park, it is a massive jewel park for the city and 55,000 should be a manageable sized affair (festival map here). Other than Coldplay and the Black Keys, organizers went with a solid indie/up-and-coming line-up that aligns with their “scaled down” approach. I love the fact that they included two buzzing homegrown ATL acts in Manchester Orchestra and The Constellations. Let’s also not forget that this year’s fest will take place in September, which should be much cooler than sometimes sweltering May. Live Nation is also trying to secure a Friday, single act show as well. I would imagine the smaller size festival is largely due to recent Screen On The Green problems, but it this year goes well, who knows where this could lead.
AM I ATTENDING: Hell yes and so are you. We’ll talk about our plans soon.

Leave your comments and musings below. Michigan friends can also place reservations for a weekend in the “A”.

STREAM: The Knux – Run ft Kid Cudi

Between this and “She’s So Up”, it appears the Knux may have another solid effort on the way. “Run” has summertime written all over it with breezy guitar and laid back verses. This “house party” tour sounds pretty amazing as well. Look for Remind Me In A 3 Days soon. Oh and what do you know? Cudi actually steps away from that depressing mess for a decent feature (albeit a singing appearance). The Knux – Run (feat. Kid Cudi) by Lost In The Sound via PMA

Apparently, new music doesn’t stop for America’s Independence weekend. Remember those amazing new tracks I described from my Mumford & Sons concert review? Now one of those joints can revolve around your head too. Marcus Mumford and the lads stopped by KBCO in Colorado for some in studio magic. Give it a listen below.
