The Weeknd aka Abel Tesfaye is up to his old tricks again on his latest ep Thursday, but I’d venture to say this release may be more concise than House of Balloons.
I previously placed singer-songwriter Sondre Lerche‘s “Private Caller” on JayeL Audio 6-9-11, but this track was definitely worth revisiting. Lerche’s unique voice sounds even better in the acoustic setting below.

Neon Gold Records is on fire with their musical finds as usual (just look at their recent releases). “It’s Around You” starts with some JT-esque beat boxing amid murky synth. Just when you think you know where the song is headed, ANR breaks into a funky, harmony filled anthem worthy of an instant head nod. Stream it below and see. I’d been a Features fan previously, but it wasn’t until I saw their live show at The Earl last February that I became a full convert. My friend had urged me to go and I am glad I did because their set was a blistering hour of backwoods influenced rock.
Preview the entire album below and check out their album release party at The Earl next Friday:
Recently, I had the opportunity to do some freelance writing for Atlanta Music Guide. AMG is a Ticket Alternative site I read daily and have won a few contests from, so I was thrilled at the chance. I won’t be neglecting my duties over here at JayeL Audio, but this is a great opportunity to get my writing in one more place on the interwebs.
If I wasn’t going to my bachelor party in Chi-Town, I would most definitely be at this show. The Features Fall Tour

DISCLAIMER:This post has nothing to do with dubstep.
I’ve been avoiding mash-ups lately, due to a) the insane amount of original music out this summer and b) the lack of anything worth sharing.
Now comes new act The Abrahammer with a solid mash-up album that will easily reinvigorate your waning interest in the genre. He was even recently featured on genius site Mash-Up Breakdown for those interested in second by second sample breakdowns of How Dubstep Music Destroyed My Life.
The two standouts so far are “I’m Still On The Cake” and “Hold the Right to Spin”. Those two tracks make up a worldwind of samples in 9 minutes but the combinations of “Stuntin’ Like My Daddy” with “Such Great Heights” and later “Mrs Officer” with “Whats My Age Again” are particularly memorable.
My only complaint is the use of cartoon themes (pretty sure I heard Inspector Gadget in there). A few other producers have sent music my way with those and its a good chance I’ll hit delete instantly. I’m glad I stuck around for this one.
A lot have people have criticized the resurrection of Music Midtown. All I can say is: A) Its the largest festival in Atlanta and you don’t have to drive 4 hours away B) The ticket cost is about what Coldplay would cost to see on their own and probably what Black Keys fans will be paying soon C) Even if you don’t enjoy Coldplay, the Black Keys know what they are doing (and don’t have an ATL stop otherwise) D) The smaller bands are much better than you think. I guarantee you’ve heard Young the Giant’s “My Body”, The Joy Formidable have been getting rave reviews on the road and The Postelles blew me away earlier this year E) Support Atlanta artists. Manchester Orchestra and The Constellations have been paying dues for awhile and are sure to put on a good show F)Band of Skulls might be the sleeper band of the lineup with their bluesy garage rock. They’ll make an excellent appetizer for The Black Keys G) Turns out Cage the Elephant have more in their arsenal than “Ain’t No Rest For The Weekend”. Check out their latest album Thank You Happy Birthday H) Music Midtown takes place in the most beautiful park in Atlanta, Piedmont Park I) Organizers know its not the “old Music Midtown”, but it is a start that could lead to something bigger and better. In the state that the music industry is currently, there is no way that would be possible. Why do you think fests like Bonnaroo and Lolla cost so much.
Bottom line: If you don’t like it, don’t go. Maybe this link will brighten your day instead.
That is all. See you at Piedmont Park in September.

I debated back and forth on waiting for Watch the Throne to drop to include some tracks, but I’m betting on that being a front to back classic. You’ll just have to pick that up on your own. Speaking of dream teams, hip-hop has been all about collaboration so far this summer. Big Sean, Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y are working on a joint mixtape, while Kyle Lucas & Captain Midnite try to recreate the magic from I Brought Dead Flowers To A Funeral. Elsewhere, Project Pat & Juicy J come together on “Kelly Green”, the best Three 6 Mafia-related cut I’ve heard since “Stay Fly”, J.Cole helps Wale with a sure-fire single on “Bad Girls Club” and Common and Nas collaborate on a No I.D. produced joint certain to satisfy old head hip-hop fans. Somehow, even Game got Dr. Dre and Snoop together on a West Coast club banger (despite the awful chorus). So far, my non-collaborative favorites include Jon Connor’s ode to a Flint hip-hop legend, Drake’s lead single from Take Care and Hoodie Allen‘s reflective wordplay on “Flipping Out”. Yeah, I couldn’t pick one this time.
