What: Shaky Knees Music Festival
When: May 4th-5th
Where: Historic Old Fourth Ward Park & Masquerade Music Park
Who: Line-up includes The Lumineers, Band of Horses, Drive By Truckers, Jim James, Gary Clark Jr., Dr. Dog, The Joy Formidable, Delta Spirit, Heartless Bastards, The Antlers, Moon Taxi & more
Tickets: $71 single day tickets – May 4th tickets, May 5th tickets
Tell Me More: In what has to be one of the most surprising fest announcements of 2013, Tim Sweetwood (Sweetwood Productions, Masquerade) crafted one of the best and efficient line-ups thus far. $110 over 2 days to see one of the hottest folk pop acts, The Lumineers and Band of Horses alone would be a steal. Bonus to organizers for not participating in the annoying habits of only releasing a partial line-up and tiresome pre-sales.

What I really like about Shaky Knees’ line-up is that in year one, the roster isn’t trying to cover all genres in 2 days and didn’t feel the need to include the obligatory EDM act. Axe wielders like Gary Clark Jr., The Joy Formidable and The Heartless Bastards align very well with acts that have large Southern followings like Drive-By Truckers, BoH, Delta Spirit and Dr. Dog. The undercard also shouldn’t be ignored boasting touring machines Moon Taxi, bluesy rock with Lucero and J Roddy and indie rockers The Antlers and The Orwells. Factor in the compact area between Masquerade and Historic Fourth Ward Park and easy access via the Beltline and I would imagine it is going to be a great weekend in Atlanta, especially near Ponce.
