I was basically obsessed with the UK rockers Editors when their debut The Back Room was all over Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show in 2005-2006. Lead singer’s Tom Smith was immense (and got compared to Ian Curtis and awful lot) and the four piece band’s sound was somewhere between post punk and Brit rock with blistering guitars and passion narratives.
New tune “A Ton Of Love” was just released and my immediate reaction is the American influence Smith mentioned to NME is very apparent. Editors have always had anthems, but their past two albums delved too dark for my taste. “A Ton Of Love” has earworm quality of The Back Room and the best songs of An End Has A Start. While I’m sure Smith will still get Curtis mentions, the first single from The Weight Of Your Love has more of an Eddie Vedder quality. Stream and watch the official video below and pre-order The Weight of Your Love here or purchase on July 1st.
