Whether Laneway Festival organizers knew it or not, they packed the first US edition of the fest with lady power galore. From R&B chameleon Solange to bruising punk rockers Savages, Saturday at Meadowbrook is beaming with ladies who know how to command a stage. Aside from Alunageorge and Icona Pop, Scottish trio CHVRCHES is the female-fronted Laneway act who probably scored the most Hype Machine love in the past year.
Consisting of fiery lead singer Lauren Mayberry, along with Iain Cook and Martin Doherty, the three-piece excel in crafting ear grabbing electro pop with soaring hooks. The glitch effect of “The Mother We Share” broke through last year, but the success has continued with hits like “Recover” and “Gun”. When Mayberry says she’ll be your “gun”, expect her to lead an explosive star-launching set on Saturday. The band’s Laneway appearance times nicely with the release of their debut album The Bones of What You Believe on Sep. 23rd. Head to the Pavilion Stage at 3:15pm on Sat. to catch CHVRCHES.
