1265369_440227802759353_1138867757_oAnother big month of music is set to launch in Metro Detroit. The biggest name coming to Detroit in October has to be Nine Inch Nails, but don’t discount the mid-tier and rising acts making their way to the Mitten. Blues revivalist ZZ Ward continues her momentum at St. Andrew’s this Sunday, while Phantogram will likely showcase new cuts from their next release at the Crofoot on 10/6. Others not be missed included steady touring rockers The Features (trust me, I’ve seen them multiple times), eccentric troubadour Father John Misty and Born Ruffians, who are making up for a cancelled show from summer.

My favorite bill of the month is certainly the Weeknd with Hype Machine staples Anna Lunoe & Banks, but the biggest story of October is the return and introduction of two venues. Masonic Temple has had a smattering of shows over the past few years, but a recent partnership with The Crofoot has boosted the talent of upcoming events. J. Cole and Wale kick off the partnership on 10/10, while GRiZ and Danny Brown get together on 10/26 for what is sure to be a raucous evening in Detroit. Midtown’s resurgence continues with the opening of the Garden Theater. The shiny new concert spot host their first show on 10/17 with Deltron 3030, Del The Funky Homosapien’s project with Dan The Automator. Check out The Garden Theater’s site and Facebook to keep up with new announcements.
