As you probably guessed, my relative radio silence here hasn’t just been due to grad school finals. ‘Tis the time of year for my annual “best of” lists and I’ve compiled all of my top tracks, albums and live shows of 2013. In addition to those standard lists, I added a new feature for 2013: reader input. Is this a lazy blogger move? Debatable, but seemed like a fun idea. Read below for the “best of” 2013 from some of the readers of JayeL Audio and feel free to add yours in the comments.

Special thanks to EK, Jenny, Kelly and Natalie for the donations this year!

LJL: Here is a way too long list of some of the songs that were rated high in my opinion:

  • Ivan & Alyosha – Running for Cover
  • The Giving Tree Band – Cold Cold Rain
  • Holy Ghost – Some Children
  • Fightened Rabbit – Woodpile
  • Quadron – Hey Love
  • Basia Bulat – Tall Tall Shadow
  • Elle Goulding – Tessellate & Burn
  • Lorde – Everything
  • Swear & Shake – Brother
  • Haim – The Wire
  • Joy Kill Sorrow – Was it You
  • Holy Child – Happy with me
  • Anna Luna – Breathe
  • Best Coast – Lonely Morning
  • Mapei- Don’t Wait
  • Jessica Hernadez – Caught Up
  • Young Galaxy – Sea Drug
  • MS MR – Dance Yourself Clean
  • Robin Thicke – Blurred Lines

LJL’s Top Albums:

  • Volcano Choir – Repave
  • JT – The 20/20 Experience Pt 1
  • Vitek
  • The Lone Bellow – The Lone Bellow

Carter C.: Top Song of 2013
St Paul and Broken Bones- Call Me

Sara S.: I don’t have any clever sentences or blurbs but I think I played Empire of the Sun – Alive over 100 times while commuting to and from Boulder for work and it always put me in good a mood.

Katie M.: Top 5 songs of 2013:

  • Phoenix: Bourgeois
  • Local Natives: Heavy Feet
  • Sky Ferreira: You’re Not the One
  • Justin Timberlake: Strawberry Bubblegum
  • Daft Punk: Doin’ It Right

EK: Top Album of 2013
Arcade Fire – Reflektor
Some albums come out and you’re not quite ready to hear them, you may like the music 5 years from now. Other albums come out, and you’re like ‘shit, I may have dug this like 5 years ago’. Reflektor was neither of those for me. This is the music I connect with right now. I heard Win Butler say ‘this album is more body music whereas our other albums are more heady music’. I’d agree (especially the first CD). Reflektor is dance-able, reflective (pun!?), and chill….which is where I am right now. That’s why it is my favorite album of 2013.

Jen T.: I’ll go off my top played songs of 2013

  • Always Alright – Alabama Shakes (shocker.)
  • Over the Love – Florence (again, nothing exciting to report here)
  • Emeli Sande – Next to me (the year beyonce and celine deon had a vocal love child)
  • Neko Case – That’s who I am (i’d like to see a year she wasnt on my top played)

I don’t think my other top plays represent the year well so i’ll say #5 is a tie between Lorde (makes me feel good about the future of youth. i think the lyrics to Royals and Team is a big FU to miley cyrus’ foam finger) and Lone Bellow (teach me to know my number of days..so i make sure to listen to lone bellow every day until the end)

Willa: Top song & top remix of 2013
“You’re the one for me” by Great Good Fine Ok/ Joel Compass “Run” (Armeria remix)
It’s got a great beat, so it’s taken me through my late nights in the studio working on finals. I’ve gotten my other classmates loving it as well. But it’s one of those songs that has some good feeling to it, feels like it takes you on a journey. I’m a big fan! Finals week of consecutive 17 hour studio days and sleepless presentations has been brought to you by “You’re the one for me” and “Run (Armeria Remix).”

BB: Top song/remix of 2013
Anywho, as it turns out, my favorite was a song from 2012. However, thanks to remix technology and Cedric Gervais, it can also be my favorite song of 2013. So here you go.
