Rodrigo y Gabriela return with their fifth studio album of fiery, flamenco guitar music, 9 Dead Alive. I can’t even count how many Summers this inspiring duo has ruled my stereo for, but they will surely occupy my playlists again this summer. Gone is the orchestra C.U.B.A. who accompanied the duo on Area 52, as Rodrigo y Gabriela get back to basics. The driving acoustic rhythms of old flourish on lead single “The Soundmaker”, see-saw style cut “Torito” and percussive fury of “Misty Moses”. Current favorite “Somnium” bounces with perfection by balancing rapid-fire riffs and emotive high notes. Even the slower tempo of “La Salle Des Pas Perdu” isn’t a downer as listeners will certainly revel in the precision of each guitar note.

Not only is the sound of 9 Dead Alive nostalgic, the duo dedicated each song as a celebration to nine individuals who’ve passed. Make sure when I move on from Earth that Rodrigo y Gabriela are doing the memorialzing.

Purchase Rodrigo y Gabriela’s 9 Dead Alive on Amazon and iTunes and stream the album below (and on Spotify). If you haven’t caught them live, I highly recommend it.
