Sahara Desert, Morocco. Nov. 2014 via Travelstache
As mentioned yesterday, the cold weather must have pushed artists into the studio because I’ve never received so many remix emails. In any case, I’m taking that as a good sign for the remainder of 2014’s Remix Friday’s.
I know Le Youth didn’t call “R E A L” a remix (and neither would I considering Soundcloud’s recent shenanigans), but the Brandy sample certainly qualifies. The Chainsmokers punctuate A-Trak’s “Push” with glitchy vocal effects and plenty of big room percussion, while Matoma stays consistent in putting his tropical stamp on every Notorious B.I.G. sample available and adds N.W.A. to the mix.
This week also included two appearances by the White Panda. The duo made Walk The Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance” even more, yes, danceable, plus solo offshoot Gryffin made Maroon 5’s “Animal” much more neon-friendly (and slightly less creepy). Throwback of the week comes from Bit Funk who took a Talking Heads classic and tweaked it just enough for DJ sets.
Top remix of the week comes from JackLNDN who gives me another reason to praise Aussie songstress George Maple. Maple’s vocals are slightly distorted, but work so perfectly for JackLNDN’s laidback and synth-filled production.
