Happy Friday all. Firstly, congrats to MATOMA on getting Big Beat Records to officially release his “Old Thing Back” remix. I can’t imagine what it took to clear those samples, but bravo sir. If you’re a fan of that classic, you’ll certainly love his take on Jay-Z’s “Roc Boys”. Elsewhere, Gold Fields returned the favor for Pat Lok as they take their turn with “All In My Head”, while Ghost Beach and Elephante make tracks from Pink Feathers and The Magician even more dance-ready. Also this week, I wasn’t familiar with Jack Howes until Discosid opted to combine “Break Away” with Ellie Goulding’s offering from the 50 Shades of Gray soundtrack, but I’ll no doubt need to dig further into his catalog.
My favorite of the week was The Hood Internet’s genius pairing of The Knocks’ summer anthem “Classic” and Big Sean’s break-up anthem “IDFWU”. I have no idea what possessed the Chi-town duo to layer Big Sean’s filthy rhymes on such a sunny production, but the juxtaposition made me actually laugh out loud…and then replay it 10x.
Stream individual remixes and the full Soundcloud playlist (including Scott Melker & Niko Javan’s banging take on BBD’s “Poison”) below. #TGIF
