Ah ha, hush that fuss. Its Remix Friday.
Its sort of looking like Spring in Michigan and it just so happens that this week’s batch of remixes have a sunny-feel to them. Viceroy consistently brings sun-soaked party music and his latest remix of Jagged Edge’s “Where The Party At?” might be the CA producer’s most Jet Life appropriate yet. Elsewhere, there were a lot of house-influenced reworkings from the likes of Pat Lok, Giraffage, Felix Jaehn and Mike Mago. 99 Souls further proved how great Blonde’s “All Cried Out” serves as a basis for soulful house remixes and Flume took Sam Smith’s “Lay Me Down” to exciting, synth-filled places I wouldn’t have expected. Also, I’ve been addicted to Calvin Harris’ “Outside” since its release in 2014, but Anevo’s shift in tempo worked well with Ellie Goulding’s inescapable vocals.
As is likely the case when they make a Remix Friday appearance, The Hood Internet earned the top remix of the week with “Being Rosa”. The expert meld of Madeon’s spry synth and OutKast’s classic “Rosa Parks” is an instant injection of dance-ready fun. Aside from the way Big Boi and Andre 3000 unknowingly glide on the 2015 production, the best part of the fusion is that the lyrics of the late ’90’s hit still sound relevant. Now that is longevity O.T. Genesis certainly will not benefit from.
