Seoul, South Korea. August 2015 via TRAVELSTACHE.
Back again with a stash of new and recent reworkings that have kept me going over the past month. In 2015, RF has been filled a lot of big room and tropical-inspired anthems that are meant to pull you to the dancefloor or festival field. There are still a few of those this week with Justin Caruso’s brave remix of The Who’s immortal “Baba O’Riley”, Win and Woo’s beach ready version of The Griswolds “Right On Track” and Young Bombs’ fist pump worthy take on FLETCHER’s “War Paint”. However, this week’s batch is decidedly more downtempo and reflective. Jean Tonique, Pomo, Four Tet and even Golden Coast pull back on the propulsive nature of the originals, in favor of exploratory, late night ready remixes.
Undisputed favorite of the week was Ryan Hemsworth’s hypnotic take on Skylar Spence’s summery single “Can’t You See”. The complete 180 degree spin on Spence’s breezy production was applaud worthy and takes the track to dark, unexpected places.
