Brit jack of all trades act Jack Garratt is one of the few acts that I genuinely need to hear the minute I find out he has released new music. For being a relatively newish act (at least in the States), that may seem like a surprise. However, Garratt has proven he can glide between gut-wrenching ballads and experimental electronic-infused pop smashes.
New single “Breathe Life” seemed as though it would be in the former category, but the see-saw production followed the singer/producer’s emotions. Lows quickly became highs with frenetic synth, effects, percussion and Garratt’s own rising vocals. The most rewarding portion of the song is when Garratt truly unleashes the semi-off kilter/semi-genius cacophony of sound at the 3:00 mark.
