Completing graduate school in May 2017 was exciting for many reasons, but an increase in time away from the home office was one of the top. That additional freedom allowed me to get out and see more live music than I’ve witnessed in at least 4 years. Below is a list of my favorite live shows of 2017. 1. LCD Soundsystem-Masonic Temple-11/3/17 The hype hangover from seeing LCD at Wayhome in 2016 could have been enough to create unrealistic expectations for James Murphy & co.’s return to Detroit. Instead, they blew me away with a

2017 would not be complete without a recap of the best remixes of the year (at least for my ears). Remixes seemed to be everywhere this year as Spotify’s grip on the streaming music game expanding and reworkings being more important to new music promotion. New interpretations of some of pop’s biggest acts weren’t much of a surprise (see Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes), but indie remixes seemed to be more prevalent (see Local Natives, Minke, Portugal. the Man, Maggie Rogers). Ed Sheeran even landed 2 spots with “Shape of You” remixes

This year’s top tracks list had a problem…too many good choices. Hence the 100 song list you see before you. As usual, the rules are that songs counted came out in 2017 (or late 2016, see: Michigan Rattlers, RTJ, and Kid Cudi) and are my most played and adored of the year. 100 songs also means that as much as I would like to write about each song, I’ll spare you the time and mention a few notes on my top 5. 1. Kendrick Lamar – HUMBLE.: I was already obsessed with this song’s addictive

2017 – the year that felt like a decade for many people. Though there was not as much protest music as I expected, the year was filled with an avalanche of great new albums, despite the apparent demise of the format. Hip-hop brought its “A-game” thanks to outstanding albums from King Kendrick (more on him later), Vince Staples (despite my wife’s musing that Vince’s name could be that of a country singer), RTJ (of course), and a surprise record from Jay-Z. Returns from HAIM, Ryan Adams, Spoon, and The National were also welcome with strong

How do you explain a mixtape that was supposed to come out one month ago? Well, you can offer up excuses related to work, a conference in the Windy City, and a sunny Florida vacation, but I wouldn’t expect much sympathy from that explanation. Instead, I’ll explain that said mixtape was actually shaping up into 2 mediocre mixtapes. Instead, I opted for a ‘best of the last 2 months mixtape’ spanning my listening from October and November. Stream new jams from AUTONOMICS, Miguel, Moon Taxi, Tove Lo, & more below. The return of N.E.R.D. wins

Blog posts have been few and far between these days, but the new indie/electronic pop sounds of Canaro are certainly worthy enough to dust off the keyboard. The Detroit six-piece are now “three for three” when it comes to replay-worthy hooks according to my count with new track “Depth”. The intoxicating single spirals with Liz Shar’s celestial vocals and Cut Copy-esque synth that sounds retro without being a novelty. “Depth” adds to early favorites “Fell Too Hard” and “Guapical” that manage RAC and St. Lucia heights from the recently released, People Movers Vol. 2. “Fell

This mixtape didn’t get as organized as fast as I wanted, but here are another 32 songs to keep you busy this fall. Triumphant returns from ODESZA, St. Vincent, and Wolf Parade made for tough choices as this month’s mixtape opener. In the end, LCD Soundsystem’s most danceable effort from American Dream, “tonite” could not be denied as the top contender to kick off the set. Besides the JayeL Audio veterans, mixtape newcomers such as NVDES, Sure Sure, and William Wild impressed with repeat-worthy cuts. Speaking of songs worth multiple-listens, I’ve been stuck on Skip Marley’s
