Delayed releases are nothing new for hip-hop albums, in fact they are almost expected. Lil Wayne and Young Money are particularly notorious for keeping fans on a revolving release calendar (no way Drizzy’s new album comes before 2012, btw). For comic relief, AVClub has been doing a fantasticjob on reporting this recently. At least Wayne and Drake have rewarded fans for their patience with free music and so come the Sorry 4 The Wait mixtape. We forgive you Weezy.

Somebody shoulda told ya I’m on one/F*** it I’m on one
Remix machine/producer Myndset pumps up the BPM of DJ Khaled’s latest hit to a more dance-able pace. That new drum and bass is pretty great as well. Seems fitting with my Sunday night Drake appreciation session on the beach in Caseville. Whoever has a copy of the Room For Improvement mixtape, send it my way… DJ Khaled ft. Drake, Lil Wayne & Rick Ross – I’m On One (Myndset Remix) by MYNDSET
These titles really haven’t made sense for awhile now, so why start now, right?
New hip-hop for your dome. I’ve already been drooling about Bad Meets Evil’s Hell: The Sequel EP, so I don’t need to discuss much here but “Fast Lane” is exactly what I hoped for. 50 Cent gets a beat that sounds straight outta Timbaland’s Black Album sessions (in a good way). Two new overseas rappers David Dallas and Tinie Tempah impress on their first Nark appearances. That David Dallas track sounds like a RJD2 or Ratatat beat I can’t place (“Loud Pipes” – thanks Nicole!). N.O.R.E. and Pharrell get back to making hits like they did in the old days. Sorry for the Ricky Ross haters (myself included) the beats and Wale appearances were too good to ignore. Speaking of “If I Die Today”, can someone explain to me the phenomenon of shooting guns in the air on NYE? Considering that half of the rappers that mention it are from NYC, aren’t there big ass buildings that get in the way?

This edition of the Nark series should have a little bit of everything for those that have been following these mixtapes. Veterans like Kanye, Dr. Dre, Lil Wayne and Game show up on tracks true to form. Current names in hip-hop like Wiz Khalifa, J Cole and B.o.B. prove why they are in heavy rotation. Even intriguing newcomers like XV, Young Prince, Yelawolf and Gilbere Forte’ bring strong efforts to the table. Most surprising though are the two Saigon cuts. It seemed like The Greatest Story Never Told would languish in major label hell, but then “Clap” and “Its Cold” come out of nowhere and show how great the combo of Just Blaze and Sai could have been. Hear the full album finally on Feb. 15th.

Its been awhile since I compiled a new Nark, so this edition requires two discs for your listening pleasure. Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Friday leaks resulted in a slew of 5 minute plus quotable posse cuts. Disc One
“Bill Gates” proves Lil Wayne’s I’m Not A Human Being isn’t a collection of throw-away cuts. Xzibit continues his comeback bid with a heartfelt track featuring a somewhat tolerable Trick Trick. Freddie Gibbs spits on a track that is unapologetically Midwest. Bruno Mars and Damian Marley seem like an unlikely pair, but “Liquor Store Blues” quickly grew on me. That give and go T.I. and Lil Wayne execute on “Yeah” is pretty priceless. Clifford’s flow is definitely reminscent of one of my favorites off King, “Front and Back”. And isn’t it nice to hear Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson rap like he gives a damn? A Narkwork Orange – Disc One – DOWNLOAD (.rar)

A new month, a new mixtape. The Fall season typically brings a chilly feel to the air and is usually present in the music this time of year. This mixtape doesn’t relfect that tone. There are some reflective, midtempo tracks from Belle and Sebastian, Arcade Fire, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, and Alex Winston, but even those songs are worthy of a head nod. Most of the mix has an upbeat approach, with Restless People giving people another reason to pick up their album, Matt & Kim return with another anthem and even Kanye gets all European with help from Stromae and up and comer Gilbere Forte’. The latest Duck Sauce track is house-flavored (much like “Anything”), which may not be for everyone, but at the very least you’ll have something to anticipate The Hood Internet remixing. The lastest mixtape also welcomes back The Walkmen on a beach rock tip and Klaxons, who might have the best-worst album cover of the year.

Thoughts? Comments? What is your favorite track on this edition? Like I said at tailgate, speak up people….
Pretty unnecessary, but also pretty amazing at the same time. I’m not sure where the thought to combine seemingly random Lil’ Wayne bars/wisdom with the artists from (500) Days of Summer soundtrack, but its was a good one. I’m still digesting the mash-up album, (500) Days of Weezy but it starts pretty strong with a Wayne spitting “Mrs. Officer” rhymes over Regina Spektor’s piano-filled “Us”. “Really Bad Kids” makes use of a chopped rendition of “Bad Kids” by ATL’s The Black Lips. Elsewhere, “There Goes The Fear” and “Lollipop Dreams” make better use of Dove and Hall & Oates than you would think. I quickly found out, tts best suited to listen from beginning to end before forming any opinions. The author is pretty mysterious so far with only a Twitter account listed, but I’m sure he’ll get a lot of notice for this one.
Draymond Green aka The Dancing Bear says its March Madness time
Back in the swing of things this weekend, I promise. I might even have a new mixtape soon, if March Madness doesn’t take over my life…
A) You’ve probably heard this everywhere and saw it top the Hype Machine’s “Popular Chart”, but I had to make sure. LA-based remixer Clocker turns the “Office” theme and Dwight Schrute into another canvas for Lil’ Wayne. He also has a great remix of Snoop & Cudder’s “That Tree”. Clockwork – Office Musik featuring Dwight K. Schrute and Lil’ Wayne Thanks Carter (via Citizen Insane)
D) I’ve been drooling over the SXSW festivities all week, but there are a few things to enjoy for those not in Austin, TX. Many party promoters/bands/labels have been dropping free music to build buzz for the big event down south. Here are a couple:
-DJ Benzi Presents Elitaste x NUE Agency SXSW Mixtape (.zip file via Elitaste)
featuring Mike Posner, Asher Roth, Freddie Gibbs, PRGz, Outasight, Gigamesh and more. Mike Posner – Cooler Than Me (Skeet Skeet Remix)
-Amie Street’s 2010 SXSW Free Tracks (registration is free)
featuring Fool’s Gold, Flying Lotus, Surfer Blood, Princeton, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour and more. NPR Music is also streaming concerts all week from the likes of Broken Bells, The Walkmen and Spoon. The small portion I heard from Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings was a great way to end the night.
E) If you are in Atlanta, GA on June 9th, you will probably be wishing you were at the Tabernacle attending the Passion Pit concert. Pre-sale tickets were let loose today at noon here: http://tixx1.artistarena.com/passionpit/
Username is passionpit and Password is tickets
F) It took awhile, but JayeL Audio is back on Hype Machine here: http://hypem.com/#/list/10879
