Vonnegutt – Bright Eyes video & Smiths Olde Bar 4/13

The Vonnegutt lads are back in town, just off a short tour and tearing up SXSW. They just released the video for their biggest track to date, “Bright Eyes”. This song has came a long way since the Vice Nine EP and will surely be a favorite once their official debut finally drops this year.

Be sure to check Vonnegutt out at Smith’s Olde Bar this Friday. Tickets are $10 and if you are coming after the Braves home opener, bring your ticket stub and you’ll get a free drank. The last time I saw these guys at Smith’s, General Patton even showed up, so who knows what Kyle and co. will get into this time.

FREE MIXTAPE: Vonnegutt – Free99

Better late than never, right? Kyle, Neil, Pat and Taylor get a little help from their friends on their first mixtape, $Free99. Previously released Vonnegutt joints (“Going Home”, “I’m A Mess And You Love It”), new songs (“When I Go”) and covers (“Day n Nite” is solid, even if it almost didn’t make the cut) all make for a fun summertime introduction (or hopefully a reminder) of what these guys have to offer.

It will only cost you a tweet, facebook like or e-mail here.

New Vonnegutt – Going Home

Lots of new releases are coming out in the next two months, hopefully we’ll get some more music from Vonnegutt. They dropped off their latest single, “Going Home” last week at AOL’s music blog. Probably one of their most accessible tracks to date, so hopefully it will make some noise on the internetz and beyond.

Thursday Linkage: Clifford Saves The Day, Kyle Lucas, BET Ciphers and more

Matt & Kim
A) A possible suicide jumper was talked down from a building across from where I work….by T.I.?!?!? Yea, that REALLY happened. I would say he doesn’t need to audition for “The Negotiator 2″ anymore.
B) Kyle Lucas pays tribute to the late Guru with a freestyle over one of my favorite Gangstarr tracks, “Right Where You Stand”. Look for it on DJ Jelly & DJ Hotsauce’s new mixtape Nu Alley Catz and get ready for that Vonnegutt free mixtape Free.99.
Kyle Lucas – Right Where You Stand (freestyle)
C) Speaking of Gangstarr, DJ Premier helmed the boards for all of the Cipher at the BET Awards. Nahright has all for your viewing pleasure, but of course, the GOOD Music medley was the best. Big Sean was pretty impressive amongst that group.

D) The Gilbere Forte’/Florence & the Machine post was pretty well received and his latest track, “Wake Up” is solid as well. Who knew Forte’ was born in Flinttown? Another reason you should follow his career.Gilbere Forte’ – Wake Up by gilbereforte
E) My inbox is over-flowing, but the stand out so far is mash-up artist Norwegian Recycling. His track “Miracles” is a professional concotion of 15 pop songs (ft Bruno Mars, Justin Timberlake, Survivor and more) that makes for a great song. Get the mp3 and watch the accompanying video below.

F) Two concerts are on my docket this weekend in Atlanta: Friday – Local Natives (tickets) and Saturday – Matt & Kim/Donnis (tickets) both at Masquerade. You should probably join…

Thursday Linkage: Cobe Obeah, Big Boi, Vonnegutt, Tokyo Police Club, RAC and more

A) Definitely a great single for Sir Lucious Left Foot, but an especially great appearance/introduction for Vonnegutt. Check the trio’s performance on George Lopez last night here. Hopefully, we’ll be seeing them on more big stages like this soon. Watch Big Boi and Vonnegutt roll thru Savannah below.YouTube Preview Image
B) Logan passed on a great site for mash-ups awhile back that I never got to posting. What the Mashup is a one-stop shop for every mash-up artist you can imagine. Try out something new or even check out those classified as “Editors Choice”.
C) Speaking of mash-ups, here are a couple that floated in my inbox over the past month. Thanks HTML and Tim Gunter. HTML-All Things Flow (Sufjan vs. Digitalism) by HTML
Tim Gunter – Little Secret Fireman (Passion Pit vs Lil Wayne)

D) I’m still in need of the new Tokyo Police Club album Champ, but until then this electro pop remix of “Wait Up” by RAC will have to do. Listen below and then download it by donating here to the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals). A great cause and perfect remix. Tokyo Police Club – Wait Up (Boots Of Danger) (RAC Mix) by Remix Artist Collective
E) Last, but not least, don’t forget to pick up the 2dope-affiliated mixtape from Cobe Obeah, Song of the Starz (for FREE). I’ve mentioned it a couple times, but it was well worth the wait. Can’t wait to see the next knowledge-filled release Mr. Obeah drops.

New Big Boi – Follow Us ft Vonnegutt

Just in time for tonight’s Vonnegutt show at Smith’s Olde Bar, Big Boi drops another gem of Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty (pre-order here). Great verses from Big Boi while Neil tears up the hook. I’m not holding my breath for a Big Boi appearance tonight, but it would be nice….

Vonnegutt w/Collective Efforts – Smith’s Olde Bar – Fri, 6/18

Never seen Vonnegutt in concert? You should. Never been to Smith’s Olde Bar? Me neither, lets go. The Purple Ribbon boys will be opening for Collective Efforts on Friday, June 18th. Tickets are $10 here or $12 at the door.

What else has Vonnegutt been up to?
-The band’s new website just launched: http://www.vonnegutt.com/
-Big Boi chose the Salaam Remi produced “Follow Us” as his next single, which happens to feature Neil on the chorus and Kyle will be on the remix.
-The band is also back in the studio working on a free EP with covers, new songs and other good things called Free99.
-Kyle just did an interview with DJ Meddafore, is writing the sequel to last year’s collabo with Captain Midnite (get I Brought Dead Flowers to a Funeral here) and just knocked out a freestyle over N.E.R.D.’s “Hot n Fun”.
Kyle Lucas – Hot n Fun freestyle
See you there on Friday, right?

Videodrome: Mike Posner and Vonnegutt

A couple of up and coming artists I’ve mentioned many a time get some much due video treatment. Check it.

Mike Posner – Cooler Than Me video
Bout time is all I can say. Glad to see it finally happen. Looks like Mike opted to showcase a electrofied version of the Gigamesh remix for the official video. Listen up for a snippet of “Smoke & Drive” in the background. UPDATE: Matt aka Gigamesh informed me that the remix I posted earlier is an incomplete version Mike made for the One Foot Out The Door mixtape. Matt later shortened the mix and add a bridge section, which is now in the video and is the “single mix”.

Vonnegutt – Promo video
You should already have The Appetizer EP (if not, get it here). With a Lollapalooza date coming and signing with new management, its about time a EPK was released. Basically, if you have a friend that doesn’t know Vonnegutt, pass it on. There is definitely a snippet of a new jam that I haven’t heard yet. Sounds pretty good to me.
