My Take: Maybe its the fact that Bonnaroo is 4 days, or it might be that Manchester, TN is a mere 3 hours from Atlanta, but I really like this line-up. There isn’t a true reunion band like The Who or Pavement (hopefully, John Fogerty and Stevie Wonder will fill that void) or as many jam bands, but Bonnaroo will definitely appeal to a wide range of music fans. Its got your big draw popular acts via Dave Matthews, Weezer, Norah Jones and homestate heroes, Kings of Leon. They are getting a lot of flack for blowing up last year, but I’m a huge fan of the band and still haven’t seen them live. Country fans get Zac Brown Band, Miranda Lambert, Jamey Johnson and cult act Cross Canadian Ragweed.
I’m sure purists are whining, but I’m really impressed with fest organizers attention to hip-hop. They pretty much read my mind with Wale, B.o.B., Kid Cudi and Jay Electronica. Jay-Z is exactly what I would want in a headliner and I’m really interested in what Damian Marley and Nas will bring to the farm.
Of course, the meat of the line-up is in the “indie” rock/blog bands that either have been or will be making noise. The Black Keys are a must see, while I’ve been salivating at a fest that includes Phoenix, LCD Soundsystem, She and Him, The xx, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Mayer Hawthorne. And I’m assuming Chromeo enjoyed linking up with Daryl Hall after this, but I’m intrigued to see that in person.
Whats great is, I bet they’ll add at least 1 more big name and they haven’t really even got to the comedy acts yet.
The real question is: Am I going? I really hope so.
