Albums Anyone?

Albums don’t get enough credit on this site (or most places for that matter) in our ADD, mash-up, iTunes single of the week society. Here are a few worth mentioning:

Local Natives – Gorilla Manor
Beat Bite: “Sticky Thread”
———————————————————————————————————————- Lettercamp – Racoon Panda
Shimmering pop that toes line between retro and rock. Its not “officially released” yet, so album art and more on this later.
Beat Bite: “Call It Off”
Hot Chip – One Life Stand
These electronic/pop artists were always hit (“Over and Over”, “Ready For The Floor”) and miss (“Wrestlers”) with me. Hot Chip’s latest record struck a chord with me though like Hercules and the Love Affair did. One Life Stand has dance beats with substance.
Beat Bite: “Hand Me Down Your Love”
B.o.B – The Adventures of Bobby Ray
I’ve been pretty patient considering I was clamoring for an official album since “Haters Everywhere” and that “Lonely People” freestyle. The beats are sound, guest appearances lived up to the hype, B.o.B.’s rhymes (for the most part) are worth a few rewinds. I think my only complaint is the need for more Bobby Ray guitar. That and the fact I wore out those singles too fast.
Beat Bite: “Lovelier Than You”
Drive-By Truckers – The Big To Do
After 8 albums from Athens, GA-based Drive-By Truckers, you know what to expect: unapologetic southern rock mixed with narritives so descriptive they have to be true.
Beat Bite: “The Fourth Night of My Drinking”
Albums in the pipeline: Janelle Monae – The Archandroid, The Hold Steady – Heaven Is Whenever, The Girls Can Hear Us – Every Day, The National – High Violet, Josh Ritter – So Runs The World Away
