CONTEST: 2012 Grammy Nominations

While not always relevant to what the kids listen to these days, last year’s Grammy awards went a long way for big bands in my world that don’t necessarily fall in the “commercial” category. Mumford & Sons and Avett Brothers had breakout performances, while somehow Arcade Fire won top honors for The Suburbs and The Black Keys earned the Best Alternative Rock Album award for Brothers and Best Rock Performance for “Tighten Up”.

2012’s nominations seem to be more musically aware than ever, which is a good thing but they still have a long way to go (the best new artist category is particularly hilarious). Nothing I would consider under the radar, but Bon Iver scooped up 4 nominations, so that should be pretty awesome to hear his name announced incorrectly. Skrillex got 5(!), Mumford nabbed 3, Foster the People got 2, Duck Sauce, Cut Copy and even Fleet Foxes managed a nod. However, the biggest news comes from Mr. West. Kanye led the way with 7 nominations and even battles with himself and his mentor as My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy faces off against Watch The Throne in multiple categories. Yeezy was shut out from the major album awards, which seems weak, but not a huge surprise. I’m pretty sure Adele is going to own the night with 6 nominations, but hey, should be a fun night all the same.

To make things a little more interesting, I’ll be holding the first ever JayeL Audio Grammy Pick-em. If you can guess the most correct winners from the 14 categories below, you’ll get a prize (mostly likely an iTunes or Amazon gift card). Leave your 14 winners in the comments before February 12th. For fun, I listed my picks and who I actually think the Grammy board will pick.

UPDATE-And the big winner is Jen. Good thing you are coming to visit next month. You’ll have an iTunes gift card awaiting your arrival
