Tell Me More: I’ve heard many great things about Forecastle and I’m envisioning even more lauding after this year’s edition. The fest takes place at 85 acre Waterfront Park along the Ohio River, which offers some relief from Kentucky heat in mid-July. Last year’s fest celebrated it’s 10th anniversary, was curated by My Morning Jacket and featured a cohesive mix of rockers (MMJ, Wilco, Sleigh Bells, Dr. Dog, Atlas Sound, The Head and The Heart) and EDM acts (Girl Talk, Beats Antique, A-trak, Flying Lotus), but 2013 might have it beat. Plenty of twang with Avett’s, MMJ’s Jim James, Alabama Shakes, Grace Potter and Old Crow Medicine Show to go with The Black Keys, 3 nights of SCI and indie acts galore (Purity Ring, Matt & Kim, Toro Y Moi, Foxygen). The undercard even features a few names I haven’t seen on many U.S. fests in blistering guitarist Bombino and hometown synth rockers The Pass. 2013’s Forecastle will likely face some competition from year 2 of Cincinnati Bunbury, but should have enough diversity to succeed. Seems like a great weekend to be in Louisville.
