Spring is off to quite the start for new music. The Hold Steady returned with more rousing bar room rock narratives, Lykke Li released new tracks picking up where she left off on Wounded Rhymes and Sam Smith continued his campaign to steal your heart as your favorite new singer across the pond. Elsewhere, BANKS covered Aaliyah’s “Are You That Somebody” in a way old fans could agree on, The Black Keys dropped off a new single to many people’s fanfare (and chagrin), and Hamilton Leithauser (frontman of The Walkmen) unleashed inescapable single “Alexandra”. Favorite of the month goes to Team Me, whose euphoric track “F Is For Faker” is just too damn joyful to ignore. Oh and I keep finding gems on St. Vincent’s latest album and if you don’t enjoy her guitar work on “Regret”, you can just…get out.
Props to NPR’s All Songs Considered for much of my musical discovery this month. If you haven’t already subscribed to Bob & Robin’s glorious weekly show for new music, do it now.
Let me know your favorites in the comments.
