I won’t claim to be a Minus The Bear expert, but my discovery of them over the latter part of their career was a welcome one. The Seattle-based band has been around for more than 13 years and that feat alone is impressive. History is in fact the reason for Minus The Bear’s current fall tour, as they celebrate the band’s 10th anniversary re-release of their fan favorite EP, They Make Beer Commercials Like This.
The band also just released and compiled a collection of b-sides and unreleased tracks called Lost Loves (purchase). The album isn’t just a stash of throwaway tracks, songs like “Electric Rainbow” and “The Lucky Ones” rank with past some of the band’s top songs as melodic, rock anthems. Lost Loves plays from front to back like a fluid, well-balanced album that could easily make listeners think it is a new album of entirely new tracks. For more info on Lost Loves, head to Noisey for a great interview with bassist Cory Murchy.
Expect to hear both the EP and Lost Loves at Minus The Bear’s upcoming show at the Magic Stick with opener Young Widows next week. The intimate setting should be a great setting for long-time fans and newcomers alike. Buy tickets for the 10/22 show at Magic Stick in Detroit w/Young Widows at TicketWeb and head to Minus The Bear’s site for VIP tickets that include a meet and greet, a poster, signed vinyl and more.
