Its been quite awhile since I missed a Remix Friday (like Jan. 3rd awhile), but if you saw my schedule last week, you’d understand. There certainly a lot of great remixes over the past 2 weeks to keep my study sessions entertaining though. Diplo rebounded from a so-so Lorde remix to putting out an addictive take on Zola Jesus’ “Go”, while ASTR took on a Night Drive track so nicely it made me pine for more of their original material. I wasn’t so sure about Pomo’s vision of Bondax’s banger “All I See”, but his remix builds quite nicely throughout for a scintillating night on the dance floor. Tropical House remixes are building steam thanks to producers like Viceroy and Matoma. Viceroy took the top throwback of the week with his Jet Life remix of Wiz Khalifa’s “This Plane” and Matoma continued his insane hit streak with a surprising take on Eminem’s “Business”. Hopefully my urban history professor will forgive me if my 10 page paper on the 19th Century accidentally has Eminem lyrics in a paragraph or two.
Favorite of the week comes from Chicago mash-up mainstays The Hood Internet. Their expert melding of my favorite cut from Freeway and Girl Talk’s collaboration with Tycho and Com Truise excels with bounce-ready synth that aligns with Freeway’s stop/start flow.
