With so many existing festivals expanding and growing in capacity, its tough for some new festivals to enter a crowded market. However, when your festival has the backing of two major players in the North American festival game like AC Entertainment (Bonnaroo, Forecastle) and Republic Live (Boots & Hearts), you’re poised to have an edge others might not. That’s why Wayhome Music & Arts Festival‘s surprise announcement made more than a few festival-goers point their gaze toward Ontario. Not at Toronto, but about an hour north in Oro-Medonte. Festival Snobs have been tracking AC Entertainment’s latest venture north for months, but I think many were shocked at big announcement in year one. The inaugural Wayhome will take place at Burl’s Creek Event Grounds and should have no trouble packing 80,000 music fans on the 700 acre area.

The 3 day camping weekend didn’t opt for a legacy reunion for headliners and capitalized on Sam Smith’s Grammy buzz, Kendrick Lamar’s pending album release and Alt J’s strong sophomore campaign. The undercard boasts the likes of Modest Mouse, Hozier, The Decemberists, St. Vincent, The Gaslight Anthem and Vance Joy to delight indie rock fans. Aside from Kendrick, hip-hop has a solid presence with Run The Jewels, Detroit’s Danny Brown and Big KRIT. A varied group of producers and DJ’s should please a variety of fans with Girl Talk, Bassnectar, ODESZA, Kaytranada and Com Truise. The rest of the line-up is a mix quality, rising and established rock/pop acts with Sylvan Esso, Cold War Kids, The Rural Alberta Advantage, Delta Spirit, Courtney Barnett & more. Oh, and Wayhome organizers are planning to add almost 40 more acts to the bill. Crazy.

Ticket prices seem quite reasonable (as a reddit user astutely pointed out) at about $168 US for 3 days before fees ($210 Canadian) and include a campsite. Wayhome also has “all in” packages that include shuttle to a nearby hotel. If you’re a festival camping newbie (like me), there are also shower passes available purchase. Other amenities include four stages (two being amphitheaters), farmer’s market and late night forest adventures. Looks like an excellent weekend in the woods!

What do you think of the first Wayhome lineup? Will you be making the trek to Burl’s Creek? Being 4.5 hours from Metro Detroit, I think I found my festival for 2015.
