Mid-semester crunch time meant I didn’t listen to nearly enough music this week, but I still had time for weekend-ready remixes. Dolly Parton might not seem like a worthy choice for a dance update, but Todd Terje’s take on the timeless “Jolene” would make for an epic standoff on the disco floor. 20syl and Michael Keenan ft Skizzy Mars inject this week’s set with a welcome bit of hip-hop, while Star Slinger put an intoxicating spin on OnlyReal’s “Pass The Pain”. Elsewhere, Eau Claire updated another classic in “How Sweet It Is”, Kungs gives Lost Frequencies’ “Are You With Me” a bit of tropical rhythms and Qubrik had the vision to bring Nelly Furtado and Future Islands together on “Dream Eater”. Also, blog favorite Louis Futon got back to remixes (after an excellent originals EP) with a supreme future house reworking of G-Eazy’s “Let’s Get Lost”.
Speaking of returns, favorite of the week features the welcome reapparance of Goldroom to the remix game. The LA-based producer has been churning out stellar originals over the past year, but I was glad to hear him bless another artist’s work. Ekkah’s “Last Chance To Dance” already had groove-ready sound, but Goldroom ratchets up the synth and tempo for your weekend festivities.
