My inbox was particularly stuffed with quality remixes this week, so let’s get right to it.
Talented producers Eau Claire and Plastic Plates get this week’s playlist off to a spring-like start with sparkling takes on Golden Coast and Cheerleader hits. Bit Funk elevated Higher Self’s gem “Ghost” with pulsing synth, while Amtrac injected Jack Garratt’s hit “Chemical” with a spry, uptempo backing. Elsewhere, The Knocks allowed me see Carly Rae Jepsen as a dance pop dive on their infectious take on “All That”, while give spiraling synth-filled reworkings to Miss Velvet and Kehlani tracks. Last, but not least, local Detroit favorite Lomen gave everyone a reason to re-engage with James Blake’s “Retrograde”, complete with some hip-hop-inspired percussion and electro elements.
Favorite of the week was Figgy’s addictive rework of Blackstreet’s ’90’s classic “No Diggity”. The stuttering production took the best portions of the original and pumped up the tempo for maximum peak hour nostalgic fun. I actually first heard the track via Scott Melker’s new radio show/mix series ADHD. Head over to Moves Magazine to hear the rest of Mr. Melker‘s aptly titled genre spanning mix that should soundtrack the rest of your Friday night (see below).
