Trails and Ways – Say You Will

TW Say You Will Single Art v7JayeL Audio favorite Trails and Ways seem like they’ve been sending me quality indie pop singles for quite some time, but believe it or not, they are just now prepping their debut album, Pathology. Past blog hits like “Nunca” and “Mtn Tune” gained a following and plenty of touring got the attention of Barsuk Records and the quartet’s first official album will be relased this June.

The second single “Say You Will” oozes with a sly, funk-filled midtempo production that excels with bassist Emma Oppen’s heavenly vocals. The song had been in development for awhile as Emma explained:

“Two years ago I met someone very special, and had the experience of falling in love in a matter of hours. In my delirium, I imagined making an ultimatum: Say you will, or don’t say anything at all.

A few months later, I wrote the bass line in the back of the van on our first summer tour, and made the first demo recording of the vocal melody against the droning fan of a venue bathroom. Silky four-part harmonies open into a dance between syncopated bass, plucky synths, and an insistent, grounding beat. A biting rhythm guitar kicks in at the chorus for a sassy groove you can choose to love forever, or wherever you are in the moment.”

Stream Trails and Ways’ “Say You Will” and recent single “Skeletons” below. Look for Pathology out on Barsuk Records on June 2nd (iTunes Pre-order) and catch them on tour with opener Waterstrider this June.
