As I was saying, the flood of excellent remixes to my inbox over the past few weeks required a purge in the best way possible: two Remix Friday playlists. Part Two leans heavily on the rapid growth of tropical influenced remixes with a bit of hip-hop and house.
What the two playlists have in common is that The Notorious B.I.G. makes worthy appearances on both playlists, this time with a bit of Earth Wind and Fire courtesy of DJ Daigo. Tropical house has been on the rise for at least a year and producers like Bobby Brush, Mas Tropical and Matoma make the sound even more appropriate for warmer temperatures with takes on Echosmith, Crystal Waters and Astrid hits. Elsewhere, Basic Tape gave Alesso’s “Heroes” a major upgrade with aspirational keys and nu disco synth, Milky Chance’s “Flash Junked Mind” now pulses with sunny rhythms thanks to Two Friends. and Tove Lo’s “Talking Body” gets a worthy update from Jax Jones. Last, but not least, Ghosts tackled XYLO’s “America” for sunset dancing.
Frequent Remix Friday contributor Jean Tonique earned “favorite remix of the week” honors with his infectious take on Tuxedo’s (Mayer Hawthorne x Jake One) “The Right Time”. Tuxedo is greatly underrated, but Tonique’s infusion of disco and funk should give the project just the right push.
